Coronado Ocean Club is a lively waterfront condominium community located in the uniquely private town of Highland Beach in Florida’s sunny Palm Beach county. The entire land area of the town encompasses just 0.6 square miles, stretched along three miles of Florida’s A1A highway running down a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Except for one hotel, there are no commercial enterprises. The town has 3,965 permanent inhabitants, and its population has changed only 5% since the year 2000. In the past five years, Highland Beach registered zero crimes (http://www.ci.highland-beach.fl.us/). The town has its own police force, fire department and water plant. For its active community affairs, it boasts a beautiful waterfront library (http://www.highlandbeachlibrary.org/), its own Lyric Chamber Orchestra, and St. Lucy Catholic Church.

The town of Highland Beach is also home to a few substantially more expansive houses and condominium buildings, but the Coronado Ocean Club is one of the very few communities to have its own large clubhouse on its private beach at the Atlantic Ocean. Besides the clubhouse, the Coronado has two high-rise residential buildings, one facing the ocean and the other at the Intracoastal, with a total of 336 two-bedroom units—all basically the same size but laid out in four different floor plans. It also has swimming pools and jacuzzis on both the Atlantic and the Intracoastal sides, as well as two tennis courts, a sauna, and a putting green. In addition, it owns a dozen newly rebuilt docks on the Intracoastal Waterway. The Coronado Ocean Club also has around-the-clock security guards at the entrance gate, and daytime concierges in each building.

The Coronadians are a cross-section of business, legal, medical and academic people who have come here from every region of the United States and Canada, and even from faraway places such as South America, Germany, France, Ireland, Israel, Greece, and—more recently—Russia. They came here to enjoy warm winters of friendship and fun. And friendship and fun they do enjoy. In a “season” of only three or four months, the Coronado Ocean Club puts on a black-tie gala, numerous other major social affairs, trips and cruises, along with monthly “meet-your-neighbor” cocktail parties.
